Which brings me to my second. Tomorrow I will travel to the village of Kamonkoli in eastern Uganda. I first visited Kamonkoli last December with Orphan's Heart. With the help of Michael (pictured below), a physician's assistant in Uganda, we were able to start a medical clinic in Kamonkoli providing medical care to over 200 orphans and those that care for them. It is our dream, by God's grace, that one day we will be able to provide quality care for all of Kamonkoli.
My motivation for starting this blog is in part a selfish one. I think better when I write, and I need all the help in that department I can get. The musings I have running around in my head are often times confusing and at other times overwhelming. My hope is that putting them in words will shrink them down and provide some clarity to them. And perhaps some that read this will help in providing clarity and perspective as well.
My posts will likely vary widely. This week will mostly focus on my mission trip in Uganda. Other posts will be about past mission trips. And still others will be on topics of the bible, religion, social justice, medicine, politics, and family.
For now, I will leave you with a passage of scripture that is the foundation of this blog and of my life and how I pray I live it out:
“Will any one of you who has a servant plowing or keeping sheep say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and recline at table’? Will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare supper for me, and dress properly, and serve me while I eat and drink, and afterward you will eat and drink’? Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded? So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.’”
(Luke 17:7-11 ESV)
I pray that one day I will live this passage out in word and deed.
